HomeWork Task 1, 2 & 3
my short film will have an alternative narrative structure which will include flash back to other scenes that will explain the story a bit better but not a point that it will give away the whole story.
with the research that i have collected i will look at the kind of people including age and gender that like horror/thriller moves and base the story around them.
The Hook
the hook is the part of the narrative and story line that draws the viewer in and to continue watching the short film for example a hook could be a problem that happens in the storyline and as the viewer you want to get how that problem pans another thing could be the pace that the film is, it would make it hard for the viewer to want to stop watching it because if the audience is of youth age so around 14-19 its harder to keep attention.
My short film Hook
The hook of my short film is the flash back they keep unfolding the boys character and you want to know more about him and the fast pace editing will draw the viewers of the ages round 13-18 to be more interested in the short film and the end will leave them wanting more and thinking what could of happened to the him and the other characters.
I started my research on facebook and i came to find that most of the people who like horror are teenagers and the gender is just a bit one sided towards the male side. i went on to looking on there profiles and looked at some of the films they like and post and most of them are teen based. so using that information i need to think about basing my short film around teens of that age.
my film is about a teenage boy that perviously had some sort of psychological problems and has killed a number of people. he now been freed after a number of years and he is walking home. a group of boys see him and start to follow him to attempt to rob him and to a normal person on the street you would think that it is just a sad boy trying to get home. as the boy is walking he stops and starts to twitch, which is when he is having flash backs of when he was in the physiatric hospital and when he was at his worst point in time killing his mother and father. when the boy finally catch up to him and attempts to rob him he goes back in to the state he used to be in and then it cuts to backness then all four boys are on the flour dead and he walks away with a smile on his face but still you cant see his face.
finance;i will need to buy:
- A camera - Canon EOS 1200D DSLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm Lens. which would cost £279.99
- A boom mic - Rode Videomic which would cost about £55.00
- An LED light for the camera - which would cost around £49.99
- Editing suite - which would cost about £300-500 per day so all editing should be completed in a day to save further cost being wasted
- studio in which to do voice over dubs - which would cost about £200 with an engineer present also should be completed in a day.
- The Crew people operating the cameras, boom mics etc. - would cost all together about £500 a day
- Materials things like copyrighted content like music or videos and photos shown - about £80
- The talent because i will be using drama students i will not be spending a lot of money on them - £100
Time
Timing is very important because the more time we use filming and editing the more money that is being used. so it is important that deadlines are met and not going over. so for the recording and filming it should take at most 2 days to get all the shots needed and nothing more. for the editing because its £500 a day it all should be finished in a day and no longer or the editor will be charged. the same thing applies to doing the over dubs all must be completed in a day, you will have the whole day to do it so thats more than enough time to recored. The planning and prep would take up to a week so that nothing is left out and that all the location are safe to use and all the crew are available etc.
materials
In the short film there will be non-diagetic sound/music and it may be copy righted so i will need to pay for clearance so that i can use it this may range from £10-£50. if i do not pay for clearance i may be sued and would cost a lot more than just paying for it to be cleared. this also applies to photos in the background.
crew and personnel
i well need a camera operator to work the camera making sure that he get all the shots we need in the space or the two day deadline. A boom mic operator to work along side the camera operator. editor who can sort out all the shots taken and put them together within the 1 day deadline which is a lot of work so i will need to hire a very experienced person who has been in this kind of situation and can work fast and good. a sound engineer who can can also work for 1 day and is able to work fast and good to a high standard.
locations
the locations will be free because i will be filming in a public such as alleys near sidcup station so it will not cost me anything
